Green Pineapple Sour sits in the modern “sour” family: a spirit-led drink balanced with citrus and a sweetening liqueur, then pushed into tropical territory with fruit juice. It reads like a contemporary rum sour variation rather than a codified classic, combining familiar bar staples into something bright, easy-going, and built for casual sipping when you want a little sunshine in your glass.
You’ll find white rum laying down a clean, lightly sweet base, while Cointreau brings a smooth orange lift that doubles as the drink’s sweet counterweight. Lime juice sharpens everything with a crisp, mouthwatering tang, and pineapple juice adds a fuller, juicier sweetness that softens the edges of the citrus. A dash of cola slips in at the finish with a darker, caramel-tinged accent that nudges the fruit and orange notes into a rounder, more mellow shape.
Serve it when you’re craving something refreshing but not one-note—part zesty sour, part tropical cooler. It suits warm afternoons, laid-back parties, and anyone who likes their rum drinks bright and fruity with a little extra depth from that cola dash.

Lowball / rocks glass
Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
White rum and Cointreau lead with bright orange sweetness, sharpened by lime juice, while pineapple juice brings a lush tropical body and the cola dash adds a faint caramel-spice shadow on the finish. It works because lime’s acidity keeps the liqueur and pineapple from cloying, and the cola accent deepens the rum; ideal for sour fans who want a fruit-forward, easy rocks drink.

FAQ's
What is the best method to combine the ingredients for a Green Pineapple Sour to ensure it maintains its flavor profile?
The Green Pineapple Sour should be shaken, not stirred, to properly combine the Cointreau, lime juice, pineapple juice, cola, and white rum. This method also chills the cocktail effectively, ensuring its flavors are well-blended and vibrant. Use a cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour in all the liquid ingredients, shake vigorously for about 15 seconds, and then strain into a lowball glass.
How can I garnish a Green Pineapple Sour to enhance its appearance?
A slice of pineapple or a lime wheel makes an ideal garnish for a Green Pineapple Sour. You can also add a cocktail cherry for a pop of color and sweetness. Place the garnish on the rim of the glass or float it on top of the drink right before serving to add visual appeal.
Is there a non-alcoholic version of the Green Pineapple Sour, and how can it be made?
Yes, a non-alcoholic version of the Green Pineapple Sour can be created by substituting the Cointreau and white rum with non-alcoholic alternatives like seedlip or another non-alcoholic spirit that has a citrus profile. Replace the Cointreau and white rum with an equal volume of the non-alcoholic substitute, then mix with the lime juice, pineapple juice, and a dash of cola as usual.
What is the optimal way to serve a Green Pineapple Sour to preserve its intended taste and presentation?
The Green Pineapple Sour should be served in a lowball glass to maintain its aesthetic and temperature. Ensure the glass is chilled before pouring in the shaken mix to keep the cocktail cold longer without dilution. The low profile of the glass also makes it easier to enjoy the garnishes and the aroma of the ingredients.
How does the alcohol content of Green Pineapple Sour compare to a classic Margarita?
The Green Pineapple Sour has an alcohol content of 18.18%, which is slightly lower than a classic Margarita, which typically has an alcohol content around 20% to 30% depending on the recipe. The lower alcohol content in the Green Pineapple Sour makes it a lighter option, suitable for those preferring a less potent cocktail.
