Flower Power is a modern, floral-leaning gin sour that plays with colour and perfume as much as flavour. You’ll find it sits in the contemporary “garden cocktail” lane, where botanical gin meets tea and fruit for a lighter, more aromatic take on the classic citrus-and-sweet balance. With a coupe glass serve, it reads as elegant and cocktail-bar styled, built for sipping rather than shooting.

Expect Hendrick’s-style botanicals to lead, with gin’s crisp backbone carrying the soft, delicate character of pea tea. Lychee juice brings a rounded, tropical sweetness that feels plush against the sharper edge of lemon juice, while simple syrup smooths the whole profile into a clean, cohesive sweet-tart curve. The result is bright and fragrant, with citrus lifting the fruit and tea rather than overpowering them.

This is the kind of drink you reach for when you want something pretty, refreshing, and not too heavy—ideal for aperitif hour, spring gatherings, or a low-key celebration. It suits gin lovers who enjoy softer, perfumed flavours, and it’s a great choice when you want to impress guests with something that tastes as polished as it looks.

Cocktail Colin says:

4/5

Gin leads with bright botanicals softened by pea tea’s gentle earthiness, while lychee juice and simple syrup bring a plush, perfumed sweetness that lemon juice snaps into a clean, tart finish. It works because the lemon acidity keeps the lychee and syrup from turning cloying and lets the gin and tea stay vivid; ideal for floral-sour fans and anyone who likes delicate, aromatic drinks.

Method
How to make a Flower Power

Serves 1 · Takes 5 minutes
Gin 50 ml (Hendrick's (if available)), Pea tea 50 ml, Lychee juice 20 ml, Sugar / simple syrup 15 ml, Lemon juice 10 ml
Mix the lemon and lychee juice together and pour the mixture into a small jug
In a shaker filled with ice, add the gin, Butterfly Pea Flower Tea, and lavender-infused honey syrup
Shake well and strain into a coupe glass with a large lump of ice
Gently pour the juice mixture into the drink and watch the colors transform beautifully
~ The use of Butterfly Pea Flower Tea creates a stunning visual effect as the colors change when the lemon juice is added. ~

FAQ's

Ingredient specifics icon

What makes Hendrick's Gin a good choice for the Flower Power cocktail?

Hendrick's Gin is a top choice for the Flower Power cocktail due to its distinctive blend of botanical infusions, which include cucumber and rose petals. This unique mix complements the delicate and floral nature of the Flower Power cocktail. The gin's smooth and subtle flavor profile pairs well with the other ingredients, enhancing the overall drinking experience. The botanical complexity of Hendrick's provides a flavorful foundation that accentuates the vibrant and psychedelic themes of the cocktail, reminiscent of the 1970s era the drink nods to.

Ingredient substitutions icon

Can I substitute the Pea Tea in the Flower Power cocktail?

Yes, you can substitute Pea Tea in the Flower Power cocktail, but it will alter the drink's visual and flavor profile. Butterfly Pea Flower Tea is prized for its unique property of changing color in response to acidity-level changes. If substituted, you could try using a different herbal tea that offers distinctive color and flavor, such as hibiscus tea for a red hue or jasmine tea for a subtle floral note. However, keep in mind that substituting may not achieve the same psychedelic color transformation linked with the original recipe, and the taste might differ slightly.

Preparation techniques icon

Why is the Flower Power cocktail shaken, not stirred?

The Flower Power cocktail is shaken and not stirred to ensure all the ingredients are properly mixed and to achieve a chilled, frothy texture. Shaking the cocktail incorporates air and provides a lighter, more invigorating texture that complements the floral notes of the drink. Stirring would blend the ingredients but would not introduce the same level of aeration. Shaking also helps to quickly and effectively chill all components, resulting in a refreshing and well-balanced beverage.

Occasion suitability icon

What occasions is the Flower Power cocktail most suitable for?

The Flower Power cocktail is ideal for a variety of occasions due to its eye-catching appearance and refreshing taste. It's perfect for themed parties, especially those celebrating the 1970s and the bohemian lifestyle. Additionally, the cocktail's vibrant color makes it a fantastic choice for springtime gatherings, garden parties, or any event where a visually striking and flavorful drink is desired. Its relatively low alcohol content (15.5%) and delicate flavor profile also make it suitable for brunches or afternoon socials where a refreshing yet modestly potent drink is appreciated.

Food pairings icon

What food pairs well with the Flower Power cocktail?

The Flower Power cocktail pairs well with light, fresh dishes that mirror its botanical and floral profile. Consider pairing it with a light salad featuring ingredients like cucumber, goat cheese, and edible flowers to enhance the cocktail's floral notes. Seafood dishes, such as ceviche or shrimp skewers, also harmonize well due to their fresh and delicate flavors. Additionally, consider pairing it with a cheese platter that includes soft cheeses, dried fruits, and nuts, which can provide a creamy contrast to the cocktail's refreshing acidity and floral undertones.
