Cocktail recipe

Rating

4.57 / 5
Invented at Harry's Bar in Venice during the 1930's, this cocktail was originally made using sparkling Italian white wine, and in many parts of Italy it still is made that way. Popular tradition however has switched the wine for champagne. A simple classic.

The Bellini offers a simplistic yet elegant dance of flavors, blending the crisp, spritzy delight of Champagne with the lush, sweet nectar of peach juice. This concoction, stirred not shaken, preserves the bubbly integrity of the Champagne, while the peach juice adds a smooth, fruity undertone that complements the sharpness of the bubbles, creating a harmonious sip every time.

FAQ's

Origins history icon

What is the origin of the Bellini cocktail?

The Bellini cocktail originated in Venice, Italy. It was invented by Giuseppe Cipriani, the founder of Harry's Bar in Venice, in the late 1930s or early 1940s. The cocktail was named after the 15th-century Italian painter Giovanni Bellini because the color of the cocktail reminded Cipriani of the color of a saint's toga in one of Bellini's paintings.

Faq icon

Can I use canned peach juice for making a Bellini?

Yes, you can use canned peach juice to make a Bellini if fresh peaches are not available. However, for the best taste, it is recommended to use fresh peach purée. If you are using canned peach juice, try to opt for a high-quality, pure peach juice without added sugars for a closer approximation to the original flavor.

Faq icon

Is it mandatory to use Prosecco in a Bellini?

While traditional Bellinis are made with Prosecco, it is not mandatory to use it. Prosecco adds a specific Italian touch to the drink, but you can also use other types of sparkling wines, such as Champagne, for a different variation. The key aspect is to ensure the sparkling wine is dry (brut) to balance the sweetness of the peach.

Occasion suitability icon

What is the best occasion to serve Bellinis?

Bellinis are perfect for brunches, weddings, and summer gatherings. They are especially popular as a brunch cocktail, offering a refreshing and light option that pairs well with various dishes. The elegance of the glass and the celebratory feel of sparkling wine also make Bellinis a great choice for toasting at special occasions.

Garnishing tips icon

How should I garnish a Bellini?

A Bellini is typically garnished with a fresh peach slice or a raspberry to enhance its visual appeal and add a touch of fruitiness. If peaches are out of season, you can simply serve it without a garnish, as the elegance of the champagne flute and the vibrant color of the drink itself are beautifully presentable.
