Blue Caprita is a bright, cachaça-forward sour that riffs on the Caipirinha family, swapping in blue curaçao for a vivid colour and a touch of orange sweetness. It sits comfortably in modern, party-ready territory: a spirit-and-citrus build where the base stays bold, the fruit stays sharp, and the look does a lot of the talking. If you’re after something that feels familiar to a lime-and-sugar classic but lands with a more playful, tropical-leaning twist, this is the lane.
You’ll find cachaça’s grassy punch leading the sip, with lime juice bringing a firm, mouthwatering tartness. The blue curaçao’s orange sweetness rounds the edges of the lime and adds a lightly candied citrus note that contrasts the cachaça’s bite. A pinch of sugar smooths the overall balance, helping the sweet-and-sour interplay feel more cohesive, while the lime wedge reinforces the fresh citrus aroma.
Serve it in a cocktail glass when you want something zesty, colourful, and unapologetically lively—ideal for warm evenings, pre-dinner drinks, or any get-together where you want a crowd-pleaser that still tastes grown-up. It suits drinkers who like their cocktails sharp and citrus-led, with just enough sweetness to keep things easygoing.

Cocktail Colin says:
Cachaça leads with grassy punch, sharpened by a big hit of lime juice while blue curaçao adds orange-candy sweetness and a faint bitter edge; a pinch of sugar rounds the lime’s bite, and the lime wedge reinforces fresh citrus oils. It works because the lime’s acidity reins in both the cachaça heat and curaçao sweetness, making a bold, colorful sour for fans of cachaça-forward drinks who like their citrus loud.

Why is the Blue Caprita shaken and not stirred?
Shaking the Blue Caprita rather than stirring helps to chill and dilute the cocktail more effectively. The vigorous shaking action also helps to fully integrate the Blue Curaçao with the Cachaça and lime juice, creating a seamless blend of flavors and a uniform, vibrant blue color throughout the drink.
What role does Blue Curaçao play in the Blue Caprita?
Blue Curaçao contributes the distinctive vibrant blue color to the Blue Caprita, making it visually striking. Flavor-wise, it adds a slight bitter orange taste that complements the tangy lime juice and the sweet and earthy notes of Cachaça, creating a well-balanced tropical flavor profile.
What are some creative ways to garnish the Blue Caprita?
For an elegant presentation, consider garnishing the Blue Caprita with a lime wheel or a spiraled lime peel on the rim of the glass. Adding a sprinkle of edible glitter or a sugar rim with blue-tinted sugar can also enhance the visual appeal and add a touch of sweetness to each sip.
What is the best glass to serve the Blue Caprita in?
The Blue Caprita is best served in a cocktail glass, as stated. This type of glass, also known as a martini glass, showcases the drink's vibrant color and makes it easy to sip. Its wide rim is also ideal for adding garnishes and incorporating a sugar rim if desired.
What occasions are most suitable for serving the Blue Caprita?
The Blue Caprita, with its striking appearance and tropical flavors, is perfect for summer parties, beach get-togethers, or any festive occasion that calls for colorful and refreshing drinks. Its eye-catching color makes it a conversation starter and adds to the celebratory vibe of special events.
