Poker Night Pour: Cocktails from "Rounders" and Gambling Classics

Poker nights are more than cards and chips. The drinks sharpen the mood and set the rhythm of the game.

The right cocktails connect your table to the movies that made gambling iconic. And here, you’ll find four cocktail recipes pulled from film: a sharp Martini, a bold Manhattan, a no-fuss Seven and Seven, and Bond’s ice-cold Vesper.

All are written with exact measures and clear steps. You won’t need bartender training, just ice, glassware, and a plan. Make Me a Cocktail’s menu and “My Bar” features help you serve them seamlessly when the cards hit the felt.

Gin Martini (from Rounders)

Rounders treats poker like a ritual, and nothing matches that mood like a Martini stripped down to gin and vermouth. When Mike McDermott mutters “Always gin,” it’s part of the film’s sharp, deliberate rhythm. A dry Gin Martini served icy cold with a lemon twist matches that clipped tone and delivers a drink that feels serious without being heavy.

Ingredients:

  • 2¼ oz (67 ml) gin

  • ¾ oz (22 ml) dry vermouth, refrigerated

  • Lemon peel

  • Plenty of cold ice

Recipe:

  • Chill a coupe. Pre-chill a mixing glass with ice, then dump the ice.

  • Add ¾ oz dry vermouth to the empty mixing glass.

  • Add 2¼ oz gin.

  • Fill the mixing glass completely with fresh ice.

  • Stir quietly for 7 to 9 seconds until very cold.

  • Strain cleanly into the chilled coupe.

  • Express a lemon twist over the surface, rub the rim, and drop it face-down.

Manhattan (from The Cincinnati Kid)

The Cincinnati Kid takes place in smoky New Orleans card rooms of the 1930s, and the Manhattan fits perfectly into that world. It’s elegant, boozy, and deliberate. Using rye highlights spice and grain, while bourbon rounds the edges for a smoother finish. Either way, it’s a serious drink for serious play.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz (60 ml) rye whiskey or bourbon

  • 1 oz (30 ml) sweet vermouth

  • Several dashes Angostura bitters

  • 1 dash orange bitters

  • Maraschino cherries (Luxardo preferred)

  • Optional small piece of orange peel

  • Ice

Recipe:

  • Chill a cocktail glass or coupe.

  • Fill a mixing tin with ice.

  • Add rye or bourbon and sweet vermouth.

  • Add several dashes of Angostura and one dash of orange bitters.

  • Stir steadily until chilled.

  • Strain into the prepared glass.

  • Garnish with Luxardo cherries. Optionally express a small piece of orange peel and wipe the rim.

Seven & Seven (from Mississippi Grind)

The road-trip poker vibe in Mississippi Grind calls for an unfussy drink. The Seven and Seven became a casino bar staple because it’s easy to order, easy to make, and goes down fast. The sweetness of the soda balances the whiskey’s bite, making it friendly for any guest at your game.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Seagram’s 7 whiskey

  • 7 Up to fill

  • Ice

Recipe:

  • Pack a 10-oz glass with ice.

  • Measure and pour 2 oz Seagram’s 7.

  • Top with 7 Up.

  • Stir lightly and serve without garnish.

Vesper Martini (from Casino Royale)

Casino Royale introduced Bond’s own creation: the Vesper. Built stronger than a standard Martini, it mixes gin, vodka, and vermouth into a cold, potent drink. The Jukes London version keeps every element in the freezer, adds a dash of Angostura, and finishes with orange oils. The result is sharp, aromatic, and made to impress.

Ingredients:

  • 3 parts very cold gin (example: No. 3 gin)

  • 1 part very cold vodka (Polish vodka preferred)

  • ½ measure of house vermouth

  • A few drops of Angostura bitters

  • Orange peel

Recipe:

  • Freeze the serving glass, gin, and vodka in advance.

  • Add a few drops of Angostura bitters into the frozen glass.

  • Add ½ measure of vermouth.

  • Pour 1 part vodka straight from the freezer.

  • Add 3 parts gin, equally cold.

  • Express oils from an orange peel over the top and serve.

Conclusion

Poker nights reward more than luck. They hinge on rhythm, control, and the way you set the table for tension. Try playing with crypto at https://sportbet.one/casino with the Martini, Manhattan, Seven and Seven, and Vesper. Make Me a Cocktail’s My Bar and Menu Creator gives you everything you need to host or play online in style.
