Yule Mule is a festive, holiday-leaning twist on the Mule template: vodka lengthened with ginger beer and brightened with citrus. Rather than leaning on lime, you’ll find it steers into wintery flavours and seasonal colour, making it feel right at home alongside Christmas and New Year gatherings. It’s a modern, crowd-friendly highball style built for easy sipping and big-batch appeal, with garnish doing some of the seasonal storytelling.
On the palate, vodka keeps the base clean while orange juice brings soft sweetness and a rounded citrus lift. Cranberry juice adds a sharper, tangy edge that keeps the fruit from feeling heavy, and it plays nicely against the ginger beer’s spicy fizz. As you sip, the rosemary sprig contributes an aromatic, piney perfume, while the orange piece reinforces the citrus notes and ties the juices together.
Serve this when you want something celebratory but not fussy—ideal for parties, pre-dinner drinks, or a cosy evening in. You’ll like it if you enjoy refreshing highballs with a balance of fruit and ginger bite, and it’s an easy pick for guests who want a lighter, sparkling cocktail with a seasonal accent.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Vodka sets a clean base while orange juice and cranberry juice bring bright citrus and tart red-fruit snap, lifted by ginger beer’s spicy fizz; rosemary and a fresh orange piece add piney, aromatic depth and extra peel-like zing. The ginger beer heat and bubbles keep the juices from feeling heavy, and rosemary ties the fruit together, making this ideal for mule fans who want a holiday-leaning, not-too-sweet highball.

FAQ's
What occasions is the Yule Mule best suited for?
The Yule Mule is an excellent choice for festive holiday gatherings such as Christmas, New Year's Eve, and winter parties. Its blend of cranberry and orange juices with vodka and ginger beer makes it a refreshing and celebratory drink perfect for colder months. The rosemary garnish adds a touch of holiday cheer and aromatic warmth, making it ideal for toasting during seasonal festivities or enjoying around a cozy fire with friends and family.
Are there any substitutions for ingredients in a Yule Mule?
There are a few substitutions you can consider if you don't have all the ingredients for a Yule Mule. If you don't have vodka, you could use a light rum or gin as alternatives, each bringing its unique flavor profile to the drink. If fresh orange juice is unavailable, a high-quality store-bought juice will work. For the cranberry juice, try to use pure or unsweetened cranberry juice to maintain the balanced tartness of the cocktail. If fresh rosemary is hard to find, you could use a sprig of thyme for a different, herbaceous note. Lastly, if ginger beer is not available, ginger ale can be used for a milder, sweeter version.
How should a Yule Mule be garnished for the best presentation?
To achieve an eye-catching presentation for your Yule Mule, garnish it with a fresh sprig of rosemary and an orange slice or zest. The rosemary should stand tall in the glass, adding visual interest as well as a pleasant herbal aroma that complements the drink's flavors. The orange slice or twist of zest adds a pop of color and highlights the citrus notes within the cocktail. For an extra festive touch, consider lightly sugaring the rim of the glass or adding a few fresh cranberries to the drink for a splash of color and a nod to its tart cranberry juice.
What are the key preparation techniques for making a Yule Mule?
Making a Yule Mule is simple yet rewarding, thanks to its classic stirring preparation. Begin by filling a highball glass with ice to keep the drink chilled. Then, pour in the vodka, orange juice, and cranberry juice, and gently stir to combine the ingredients without shaking, which ensures the drink remains clear and visually appealing. Top the mixture with refreshing ginger beer for a fizzy finish. Be sure not to overfill the glass to allow space for the fizz to develop. Finally, garnish with a sprig of rosemary and an orange slice for added aroma and decoration.
What food pairs well with a Yule Mule?
The Yule Mule pairs beautifully with a variety of holiday dishes and flavors. Its crisp, refreshing profile complements rich and savory foods such as roast turkey, glazed ham, or beef tenderloin. The tartness of the cranberry and brightness of the orange also go well with appetizers like cheese platters, smoked salmon, or cranberry-studded brie. For dessert, consider pairing it with citrus-infused treats such as orange panna cotta or classic holiday sweets like gingerbread cookies, which enhance the ginger beer's spicy notes. Overall, the Yule Mule's versatility makes it a delightful match for numerous festive dishes.
