The Orange Daiquiri is a bright, citrus-led twist on the traditional rum sour template that defines the daiquiri family. Rather than leaning solely on lime, you’ll find it broadens the profile with orange, keeping the drink firmly in the crisp, shaken-cocktail lane while nudging it toward a sunnier, fruit-forward style. It reads as a modern variation more than a historically fixed classic, built for easy balance and immediate refreshment.
Gold rum brings a rounded, lightly sweet backbone that stands up to the citrus without disappearing. Orange juice adds soft, mellow fruitiness, while lime juice supplies the sharp edge that keeps each sip snappy and clean. Sugar or simple syrup ties the two citrus notes together, smoothing the lime’s bite and lifting the orange so the finish feels bright rather than flat.
Served in a cocktail glass, this is a great choice when you want something zesty but not aggressively tart. You’ll enjoy it as an aperitif, at warm-weather gatherings, or anytime you’re in the mood for a daiquiri that feels a little more relaxed and juicy while still tasting properly crisp.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Gold rum leads with warm, rounded sweetness, while orange juice brings juicy brightness that softens the sharp snap of lime juice, all pulled into a clean, glossy tart-sweet line by sugar/simple syrup. It works because the lime’s acidity keeps the orange and syrup from feeling flat, letting the rum stay present; ideal for anyone who likes citrus-forward sours with a gentler edge.

FAQ's
What type of rum should I use for an Orange Daiquiri?
For an Orange Daiquiri, using gold rum is recommended as it offers a richer flavor compared to white rum, while not overpowering the delicate balance of orange and lime juices. Gold rum adds a slight sweetness and complexity that enhances the cocktail.
Can I use bottled orange juice for this cocktail?
While fresh-squeezed orange juice is preferred for its freshness and to avoid added sugars or preservatives found in some bottled juices, you can use high-quality, 100% pure bottled orange juice as an alternative. However, fresh juice will provide a brighter flavor.
Is the Orange Daiquiri very sweet?
The Orange Daiquiri is not overly sweet. The sweetness level can be easily adjusted to personal taste by modifying the amount of sugar syrup used. The tartness from the lime juice also helps balance the sweetness to create a refreshing cocktail.
How can I adjust the alcohol content in an Orange Daiquiri?
To adjust the alcohol content, you can vary the amount of gold rum. For a stronger cocktail, add more rum, and for a lighter version, reduce the amount of rum accordingly. Please note, adjusting the rum quantity will also change the total volume of the cocktail.
What is the proper way to serve an Orange Daiquiri?
An Orange Daiquiri is best served cold in a cocktail glass. It's typically not shaken or stirred but carefully mixed to preserve the delicate balance of flavors. To ensure it's cold, you can chill the glass beforehand and serve the cocktail over a small amount of crushed ice or neat, depending on preference.
