Champagne Flip sits in the “flip” family: rich, frothy cocktails built around egg and a spirit, traditionally sweetened for a dessert-like finish. While flips have deep roots as warming, egg-based drinks, this version feels like a celebratory, sparkling twist—taking the creamy, brandy-led core and stretching it into something lighter and more festive with Champagne or prosecco.
You’ll find brandy brings a rounded, fruity warmth that forms the backbone, while a dash of orange liqueur adds a bright citrus lift that keeps the sweetness in check. Sugar or simple syrup smooths the edges and ties the flavors together, and the cream deepens the texture into something silky. Egg white gives you that signature flip foam—softening the palate—while the Champagne/prosecco cuts through with crisp bubbles, making the whole drink feel airy rather than heavy.
Serve it in a Champagne glass when you want something indulgent but still occasion-worthy—ideal for brunch, toasts, or as a dessert cocktail that doesn’t feel cloying. If you like sparkling drinks with a creamy, meringue-like top and a brandy-and-citrus core, this is right in your lane.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Brandy leads with warming fruit and oak, rounded by a dash of orange liqueur, while sugar and cream give a soft dessert sweetness and the egg white adds a silky foam; Champagne or prosecco lifts it all with bright bubbles and a crisp finish. It works because the sparkling wine’s acidity and effervescence cut through the rich cream-and-egg texture, making it ideal for brunch drinkers and anyone who likes creamy, celebratory sippers.

FAQ's
What is a Champagne Flip and how does it differ from other champagne cocktails?
A Champagne Flip is a unique cocktail that combines the effervescence of champagne or prosecco with the creamy texture of egg white and cream, enriched by the depth of brandy and the sweetness of sugar syrup and orange liqueur. It differs from other champagne cocktails by incorporating egg white and cream, creating a smooth, frothy texture that balances the sparkly champagne's crispness.
Can I substitute a different type of sparkling wine in place of Champagne or prosecco in a Champagne Flip?
Yes, you can use various types of sparkling wines as a substitute for Champagne or prosecco in a Champagne Flip. However, the choice of sparkling wine will affect the flavor profile. Cava or domestic sparkling wines can be good alternatives, offering their unique characteristics while maintaining the effervescence required for the cocktail.
How important is the quality of Champagne or prosecco used in a Champagne Flip?
The quality of Champagne or prosecco is quite important in a Champagne Flip as it is a significant component of the cocktail. Higher quality sparkling wines will impart a refined flavor and better effervescence, enhancing the overall tasting experience. That said, since it's mixed with other ingredients, there is some flexibility, but starting with a good-quality base will always yield a better cocktail.
Is there a non-alcoholic version of the Champagne Flip?
Yes, a non-alcoholic version of the Champagne Flip can be made by substituting the alcoholic components (brandy and Champagne/prosecco) with non-alcoholic alternatives like non-alcoholic sparkling wine and a non-alcoholic brandy flavoring. The egg white, cream, sugar syrup, and orange liqueur (if a non-alcoholic version is available) would remain the same, creating a similar texture and flavor profile.
What is the best time to serve a Champagne Flip?
A Champagne Flip makes an excellent choice for festive occasions, celebrations, or any event where you want to add a touch of elegance and sophistication with a unique cocktail. It's particularly popular for New Year's Eve, weddings, anniversaries, or as a sophisticated after-dinner drink. Its luxurious and creamy texture, combined with the bubbly champagne, lends itself well to toast-worthy moments.
