The Lemon Daiquiri is a bright, citrus-forward twist on the broader daiquiri family: rum shaken with fresh juice and sugar for a clean, bracing sour. While the original Daiquiri is most closely associated with lime, this variation leans into lemon’s sharper edge and pairs it with an orange liqueur for extra lift. You’ll find it sits comfortably in modern “sour” territory—zippy, aromatic, and built for people who like their cocktails crisp rather than creamy or heavy.
On the palate, white rum keeps the base light and gently sweet, letting the lemon juice take the lead with a clear, mouth-watering tartness. Cointreau brings orange sweetness and a subtle bitterness that rounds the citrus and stops the drink feeling one-note, while simple syrup smooths the sharp corners and ties everything together. The lemon wedge reinforces the fresh citrus impression, and the teaspoon of sugar adds a final, clean sweetness that lingers.
Serve it in a chilled cocktail glass when you want something refreshing but still punchy—ideal as an aperitif or a sunny, early-evening drink. If you enjoy Margaritas or other citrus sours, this is right in your lane, especially when you’re craving a lemon-led profile with a touch of orange complexity.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
White rum and Cointreau set a clean, lightly orange-sweet base that’s immediately sharpened by a big hit of lemon juice, with simple syrup and a sugar-rimmed lemon wedge adding a crisp, candied edge. It works because the lemon’s bite keeps the sugars and Cointreau from cloying while rum stays lean; ideal for sour lovers who like bright citrus and a touch of orange.

FAQ's
What type of flavor profile does a Lemon Daiquiri have?
A Lemon Daiquiri typically features a refreshing and tangy flavor profile, balancing the sharpness of the lemon juice with the sweetness of the sugar syrup and Cointreau, complemented by the smoothness of white rum.
Can I substitute another type of rum in a Lemon Daiquiri?
Yes, you can substitute another type of rum in a Lemon Daiquiri, although white rum is traditionally used for its clean, light flavor which pairs well with the lemon. Dark rum can be used for a richer taste, or spiced rum for a more complex flavor profile.
Is it possible to make a non-alcoholic version of a Lemon Daiquiri?
Absolutely! For a non-alcoholic version, you can omit the rum and Cointreau and replace them with non-alcoholic alternatives or simply increase the amount of lemon juice and sugar syrup to taste. Addition of soda water or a dash of non-alcoholic bitter can also add depth to the drink.
How should I garnish a Lemon Daiquiri?
A Lemon Daiquiri is typically garnished with a lemon wedge or a twist of lemon zest. For a more decorative touch, you could rim the glass with sugar or add a sprig of mint for color and a hint of freshness.
Can I prepare a Lemon Daiquiri in advance?
While it's best enjoyed fresh, you can prepare the mix of lemon juice, sugar syrup, and Cointreau in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Just add white rum and shake with ice right before serving to ensure the Lemon Daiquiri is cold and refreshing.
