Brazilian Sunrise is a bright, easy-drinking highball that plays on the familiar “sunrise” idea: a tall orange-forward drink finished with a blush of grenadine that sinks and softly tints the glass. Rather than leaning on a long, well-documented backstory, this one reads as a modern, party-friendly twist—built around flavoured vodka and liqueur for a sweeter, more approachable profile that suits casual mixing and sunny moods.
You’ll find vanilla vodka brings a smooth, dessert-like warmth that immediately softens the drink’s edges, while apple liqueur adds a crisp, candied fruit note that lifts the mid-palate. A dash of grenadine contributes a concentrated pomegranate sweetness and that signature rosy gradient, and the fizzy orange drink ties everything together with bright citrus sweetness and lively carbonation, keeping the finish light and refreshing.
Serve it when you want something colourful and uncomplicated—ideal for warm afternoons, barbecues, or easygoing pre-drinks. If you enjoy sweeter, fruit-led cocktails with a gentle vanilla accent and plenty of fizz, this is a natural pick, especially when you’re after a tall drink that feels festive without being heavy.

Highball glass
Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Vanilla vodka and apple liqueur lead with creamy sweetness and baked-fruit notes, while the fizzy orange drink adds bright citrus lift and bubbles; a dash of grenadine drifts through with pomegranate-candy richness. It works because the orange fizz lightens the vanilla-apple weight and the grenadine adds a gentle, fruity finish, ideal for anyone who likes sweet, soda-topped highballs.

FAQ's
What is the ideal occasion for enjoying a Brazilian Sunrise?
The Brazilian Sunrise, with its vibrant mix of apple liqueur, grenadine, vanilla vodka, and a fizzy orange drink, is perfect for summer parties, beach gatherings, or any occasion where a refreshing and fruity cocktail is desired. Its tropical flavors and colorful appearance make it a great choice for celebrations or as a festive start to the weekend.
Can I make a non-alcoholic version of the Brazilian Sunrise?
Absolutely! To create a non-alcoholic version of the Brazilian Sunrise, simply substitute the apple liqueur and vanilla vodka with non-alcoholic alternatives or use appropriate flavored syrups. Maintain the grenadine and fizzy orange drink proportions to keep its signature taste and look. This version makes it enjoyable for everyone, including those who prefer or need to avoid alcohol.
How can I customize the Brazilian Sunrise to suit my personal taste?
The Brazilian Sunrise is quite versatile. If you prefer a sweeter cocktail, consider adding more grenadine or a splash of simple syrup. For a less sweet, more citrus-forward drink, reduce the grenadine slightly and include a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Additionally, you can experiment with different types of fizzy orange drinks or even swap the apple liqueur for another fruit liqueur to create a new flavor profile.
What is the best type of food to pair with a Brazilian Sunrise?
The Brazilian Sunrise pairs wonderfully with light appetizers, seafood, and tropical-inspired dishes. The sweetness of the cocktail complements spicy foods well, whereas its citrus notes can enhance the flavors of grilled fish or chicken. For a unique experience, try it with fruit-based desserts or citrus-flavored cakes to cap off a meal.
How does the alcohol content of the Brazilian Sunrise compare to other cocktails?
With an alcohol content of 5.5%, the Brazilian Sunrise is considered a relatively light cocktail. It's similar in strength to a glass of wine but lower in alcohol compared to stronger cocktails like martinis or old fashioneds. This makes it a fantastic option for those looking for a less intoxicating choice, allowing for enjoyment over a longer period without overwhelming alcohol effects.
