Grimm Spesiale sits firmly in the modern, fruit-forward vodka cocktail family: bright, easy-drinking, and built for long, refreshing serves. It doesn’t have a widely documented origin story, but it fits the late-20th-century wave of schnapps-and-juice highballs that favour bold flavour, approachable sweetness, and colourful presentation. With a dash of vodka underpinning the mix, it reads more like a lively, liqueur-led cooler than a spirit-heavy sipper.
You’ll find peach schnapps and apricot brandy set a juicy stone-fruit core, with triple sec adding a clean orange sweetness that lifts the fruit rather than weighing it down. Cranberry juice brings a tart, red-fruit snap that keeps the liqueurs in check, while apple juice smooths everything out with a mellow, rounded sweetness. The result is a layered fruit profile that stays bright and drinkable from first sip to last.
Serve it in a highball when you want something sociable and crowd-pleasing—ideal for parties, pre-drinks, or any time you’re after a colourful, easygoing refresher. If you like sweet-tart cocktails with plenty of fruit character and minimal bite, this one lands right in your comfort zone.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Peach schnapps, apricot brandy, and triple sec lead with a thick stone-fruit-and-citrus sweetness, while cranberry juice adds a tart red snap and apple juice rounds it into a mellow, juicy finish, with vodka sitting quietly underneath. The balance works because cranberry’s acidity keeps the liqueurs from cloying and apple smooths the edges; ideal for anyone who likes bright, sweet-tart highballs over spirit-forward drinks.

FAQ's
Can I substitute Apricot Brandy in the Grimm Spesiale?
Yes, if you don't have Apricot Brandy, you can substitute it with Peach Brandy or even a Peach Liqueur for a similar fruity depth. The flavor profile will slightly change, but it will still complement the overall taste of the cocktail.
What garnishes work well with Grimm Spesiale?
For the Grimm Spesiale, considering its fruity notes, a slice of peach or apple, or even a few cranberries, can add both visual appeal and a hint of freshness to the drink. A sprig of mint could also provide a nice color contrast and a refreshing aroma.
Is shaking the best way to mix the Grimm Spesiale, or can it be stirred?
The Grimm Spesiale is best prepared shaken, as the method helps to thoroughly combine the various juices and liquors, resulting in a smoother, more homogeneous drink. Shaking also adds a slight frothiness that enhances the drinking experience. Stirring might not integrate the components as well, especially for the texture desired in this cocktail.
What is the ideal type of ice for serving the Grimm Spesiale?
For the Grimm Spesiale, using large ice cubes or a single ice sphere is ideal as they melt slower than standard ice cubes, reducing dilution of the flavors. This keeps your drink colder and stronger for longer, especially important given the mix of juices and spirits.
How does the alcohol content in Grimm Spesiale compare to a standard cocktail?
The Grimm Spesiale has an alcohol content of 13.57%, which places it on the slightly lighter side compared to standard cocktails, which typically hover around 15-20% alcohol by volume. This makes it a moderately strong drink, offering a good balance between the alcoholic strength and the flavor profile.
