October 4th is National Vodka Day and to mark the occasion we have put together a list of some of the more unusual vodka cocktails available so that you can broaden your drinking horizons. Life isn’t all martinis and bloody marys you know!

Hulk Smash

There are a number of cocktails going by this name, but this recipe is our favourite by far! One for all of those Marvel fans out there, the Hulk Smash cocktail comes in a rather fetching shade of green! Made up of orange vodka, triple sec, lime juice, raspberry liqueur and soda, this sickly-sweet combination is one that is sure to keep you up all night! I can’t promise that it will give you super human strength, unfortunately.

Bacon Cherry Creek

Fancy a sip of some bacon-infused vodka? It might not be top of your list of alcoholic beverages, but when paired with bourbon, cherry-cinnamon syrup and port, it makes for a surprisingly delicious cocktail. Definitely one to try when you are feeling brave!

Holiday Spice

We are at that time of year where we are feeling slightly sad that summer is over and it is not close enough to December to start getting excited about Christmas. We think the Holiday Spice is the perfect antidote to our longing, combining coconut vodka, milk and egg (think tropical Pina Colada) with festive spices including cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice. Sounds amazing, right?

Peppypolitan

Add a little kick to your vodka routine with this spicy hit served in Claridge’s, London. Making use of pepper vodka, peach schnapps, apple juice and cranberry juice, it is garnished with a chilli for good measure and is one of the hotel bar’s most popular cocktails.

Apple Spice

If the Holiday Spice leaned too far towards the tropical vibes for you, you will adore the Apple Spice, which is all about the sweet apple juice taste, with a hard edge. Combine juice with vodka, brown sugar and cinnamon for an irresistible drink that will taste like your childhood!

Red Velvet Shortcake

A real delight of a cocktail, this one tastes just like dessert! Strawberries, lemon juice and vodka are muddled together before being combined with cream soda – if you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll love this drink!

Vodka is possibly one of the most versatile of spirits, which makes it a lot of fun to play with. The above cocktails are delicious examples of this, but why not try making you own vodka cocktails using unusual ingredients – who knows what masterpieces you could create?!

Bartender's top tip

Creating your own syrups and infusions can dramatically elevate your cocktails. Homemade simple syrup is just the start; you can infuse it with flavors like vanilla, herbs, spices, or even chili to add a unique twist to your drinks. Infusing spirits with fruits, herbs, or spices can also create personalized and complex flavors that you can’t buy off the shelf.
