CINCO DE MAYO is a tequila-forward sour with a smoky twist, built for bold, fruit-leaning flavour rather than strict tradition. While it shares the celebratory spirit you’d expect from its name, it reads more like a modern mash-up: blanco tequila as the backbone, a teasing measure of mezcal for depth, and a split of liqueur and vermouth to push it into richer, cocktail-bar territory.
You’ll find the tequila’s clean agave character upfront, quickly sharpened by lemon juice. Strawberry liqueur brings a bright, candy-like fruit sweetness that’s tempered by red vermouth’s darker, winey richness, keeping the drink from feeling one-note. A teaspoon of agave syrup smooths the edges and ties the agave notes back to the base spirit, while raspberries add a fresh, tart-berry lift that plays neatly against the mezcal’s smoky accent.
Serve it over ice in a rocks glass when you want something festive but not overly tropical—ideal for early evening drinks, parties, or a food-friendly cocktail alongside spicy, grilled, or citrusy dishes. If you like Margaritas but want more berry depth and a hint of smoke, this is firmly in your lane.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Tequila blanco leads with bright agave snap, while a teaspoon of mezcal adds a smoky edge over strawberry liqueur, red vermouth, muddled raspberries, and lemon juice, rounded by a teaspoon of agave syrup. The lemon’s acidity keeps the berry-liqueur sweetness in check and the vermouth’s herbal depth bridges tequila and smoke; it’s ideal for home bartenders who like fruit-forward sours with a savory, mezcal-kissed finish.
