Brexit sunrise is a modern, highball-style vodka cooler that plays on the “sunrise” idea with layered, flag-bright colour and an easy-drinking, fruit-forward profile. It sits in the same family as long, juice-led party drinks where vodka keeps things clean and neutral while citrus and berry juices do the heavy lifting. Rather than leaning on a deep classic backstory, it feels like a contemporary, tongue-in-cheek creation designed for impact in the glass and crowd-pleasing flavour.
You’ll find vodka provides a crisp base, while triple sec adds a sweet orange lift that ties directly into the orange juice. Cranberry juice brings a sharp, red-berry tang that’s tightened further by lemon juice, keeping the sweetness in check. A dash of grenadine deepens the fruit sweetness and helps create that “sunrise” impression, and blueberry juice rounds things out with a darker berry note that softens the edges of the citrus.
Serve it tall in a highball when you want something bright, juicy, and sociable—ideal for brunches, barbecues, or any casual get-together where you’d rather sip than scrutinise. It suits drinkers who like citrus-and-berry combinations with a sweet-leaning finish, and it’s a good pick when you want a colourful, conversation-starting drink without heavy, boozy intensity.

Highball glass
Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Vodka stays clean and quiet under triple sec’s orange lift, while orange juice, cranberry juice, lemon juice, and blueberry juice stack bright citrus with tart red fruit and darker berry depth, finished by a grenadine dash that sweetens the tail. It works because lemon juice sharpens the juices and keeps grenadine from turning cloying; ideal for highball drinkers who want a vivid, fruit-forward cooler with gentle bite.

FAQ's
How do you properly combine the ingredients for a Brexit Sunrise?
To make a Brexit Sunrise, you should start by filling a shaker with ice. Add the vodka, triple sec, orange juice, cranberry juice, lemon juice, and blueberry juice to the shaker. Shake well to chill and combine the ingredients thoroughly. Then strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice. Finally, add a dash of grenadine, allowing it to settle at the bottom of the glass to create a layered sunrise effect.
What is the best way to serve a Brexit Sunrise?
A Brexit Sunrise is best served in a highball glass over ice. For an aesthetically pleasing presentation, pour the grenadine slowly to create a distinct layer at the bottom. You can garnish with an orange slice or a cherry to enhance the visual appeal and add a touch of freshness to the drink.
How does the alcohol content in a Brexit Sunrise compare to other similar cocktails?
The Brexit Sunrise has an alcohol content of 10.16%, which places it on the lower end of the spectrum for cocktails with similar profiles, such as the Tequila Sunrise or the Sex on the Beach, which typically have alcohol contents ranging from 10% to 15%. It makes the Brexit Sunrise a relatively lighter option for those seeking a less potent cocktail experience.
Can you substitute any ingredients in a Brexit Sunrise if you're missing something?
Yes, if you're missing an ingredient for a Brexit Sunrise, there are some substitutions you can make. If you don't have triple sec, you can use another orange-flavored liqueur like Cointreau or Grand Marnier. For blueberry juice, a mix of black currant juice and a little extra lemon juice can serve as a substitute. If cranberry juice is unavailable, raspberry or pomegranate juice can work as alternatives, though the flavor profile will slightly change.
What occasions are best suited for serving a Brexit Sunrise?
The Brexit Sunrise, with its vibrant colors and refreshing taste, is perfectly suited for summer parties, brunch gatherings, or as a celebratory drink during special events like birthdays or anniversaries. Its visually appealing presentation makes it a great conversation starter and a festive addition to any occasion.
