Method
How to make a Sweet Captain

Serves 1 · Takes 3 minutes
Fill the rocks glass halfway with ice and pour on ginger beer
Carefully pour in the rum so it stays on top
Lastly pour the grenadine, which will settle at the bottom
Add a straw and serve
~ Tastes even better with home made ginger beer. Captain Morgan Black Spice rum has one of the best aromas (if you prefer vanilla), but feel free to experiment here. If you have Liber & Co. grenadine you're very lucky. ~

FAQ's

SERVING_SUGGESTIONS

What is the best way to serve a Sweet Captain cocktail?

The Sweet Captain cocktail is best served cold in a lowball glass. To enhance the experience, you can pre-chill the glass before pouring the mixed drink into it. Additionally, considering its components, serving it on the rocks (over ice) might also complement its flavors and keep it chilled longer.

GARNISHING_TIPS

Are there any recommended garnishes for the Sweet Captain?

For the Sweet Captain cocktail, garnishing with a slice of lime or a sprig of mint can add a fresh touch and complement the ginger beer's spice. These garnishes not only enhance the drink's appearance but also subtly interact with its flavors, providing a more rounded sensory experience.

INGREDIENT_SUBSTITUTIONS

Can I substitute a different kind of rum if I don’t have black rum for a Sweet Captain?

Yes, while black rum is recommended for its rich and full-bodied flavor, you can substitute with dark rum or even spiced rum for a slightly different taste profile. Dark rum will maintain the cocktail’s depth, whereas spiced rum will introduce additional flavors like vanilla and cinnamon, potentially adding complexity to the drink.

ALCOHOL_CONTENT_COMPARISON

How does the alcohol content in a Sweet Captain compare to that of other popular cocktails?

The Sweet Captain has an alcohol content of 10%, which places it on the lower end of the spectrum compared to many classic cocktails. For instance, a Margarita has about 13-15% alcohol content, and a Martini ranges from 15-18%. The Sweet Captain's lower alcohol content makes it a more accessible and lighter option, suitable for occasions when you prefer something less potent.

NON_ALCOHOLIC_VARIATIONS

Is there a non-alcoholic version of the Sweet Captain, and how can it be made?

Yes, you can create a non-alcoholic version of the Sweet Captain by replacing the black rum with a non-alcoholic dark rum alternative or a mix of rum extract and additional ginger beer. This allows for the preservation of the cocktail’s characteristic flavors without the alcohol content, making it suitable for any occasion or preference.
