Pisco Punch is a bright, fruit-forward pisco cocktail with roots in the late-19th-century American bar scene, where pisco’s grape brandy character found an eager audience. You’ll often see it framed as a celebratory, crowd-pleasing style of punch—built around citrus, tropical fruit, and a touch of sweetness—here lifted into a longer, sparkling highball with a Champagne or prosecco finish.
On the palate, pisco’s clean, aromatic backbone sits at the center while pineapple juice brings lush sweetness and body. Orange juice softens the edges with rounded fruitiness, and lemon juice adds a sharper, refreshing snap that keeps the mix lively. Simple syrup ties the fruits and citrus together, smoothing any tart peaks, while two cloves lend a subtle, warming spice note that threads through the drink without overpowering it. The sparkling top-up adds a crisp, bubbly lift that keeps each sip feeling light.
Serve it when you want something festive but easy-drinking—brunches, summer afternoons, or as a welcome drink that feels a little special. You’ll enjoy it if you like sparkling cocktails that balance tropical fruit with bright citrus, and it’s a great choice when you want pisco in a refreshing, approachable format.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Pisco leads with grape-brandy warmth wrapped in pineapple juice and orange juice, sharpened by lemon juice, while sugar/simple syrup rounds the edges and cloves add a dry, aromatic prickle; Champagne/prosecco lifts everything with a brisk, bubbly finish. It works because the citrus acidity and bubbles keep the fruit and syrup from feeling heavy, and the clove spice adds structure—ideal for drinkers who like bright, sparkling, tropical-leaning sours.

FAQ's
What is the origin of Pisco Punch?
Pisco Punch is a classic cocktail with its roots in San Francisco, California, during the late 19th century. It was famously served at the Bank Exchange & Billiard Saloon, where it gained popularity for its delightful taste and the unique use of Pisco, a grape brandy that originates from Peru and Chile.
Can I substitute another spirit for Pisco in a Pisco Punch?
While the distinctive flavor of Pisco is a key component of Pisco Punch, you can substitute it with another clear spirit if Pisco is unavailable. A good alternative could be a light rum or an unaged brandy, although the resulting cocktail will have a different profile and won't be a true Pisco Punch.
Is there a non-alcoholic version of Pisco Punch?
Yes, you can create a non-alcoholic version of Pisco Punch by omitting the Pisco and Champagne/prosecco and replacing them with a non-alcoholic sparkling grape juice or a combination of sparkling water for fizz and a dash of grape juice concentrate for flavor complexity.
What is the significance of using cloves in Pisco Punch?
Cloves add a warm, aromatic spice to the Pisco Punch that complements the sweetness of the pineapple and orange juices, as well as the acidity of the lemon juice. It adds depth to the cocktail and enhances its overall flavor profile.
How does the alcohol content of Pisco Punch compare to other cocktails?
With an alcohol content of 15.75%, Pisco Punch falls into the medium range of alcohol content for cocktails. It is stronger than light cocktails like a Mimosa but lighter than high-alcohol content drinks like a Martini. This makes it a good choice for those who enjoy a moderately strong cocktail.
