The TCL Mulled Fizz is a sparkling, spiced-rum cocktail that borrows the cosy cues of mulled wine and drops them into a celebratory Champagne-glass serve. Rather than leaning on a long-established backstory, it reads like a modern seasonal fizz: fortified wine for depth, warming spice for aroma, and bubbles to keep everything bright and lifted. You’ll find it sits comfortably in that winter-to-holiday space where “mulled” flavours meet aperitif-style sparkle.
On the palate, spiced rum brings a sweet, warming backbone that’s echoed by the cinnamon stick, cloves, and a dusting of nutmeg. Port adds a dark, rounded richness that deepens the rum’s spice, while orange juice cuts through with fresh citrus sweetness. A vanilla pod smooths the edges, tying the spice and fruit together, and Champagne or prosecco finishes it all with a crisp, effervescent lift that keeps the drink from feeling heavy.
Serve it when you want something festive but not overly sharp—ideal for winter parties, Christmas gatherings, or a fireside toast. If you enjoy spiced, aromatic drinks yet still want a bubbly, elegant presentation, this one hits the mark, especially as a welcome drink or an after-dinner sparkle.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Spiced rum leads with cinnamon stick, cloves, vanilla pod, and nutmeg warmth, while port adds dark fruit richness and orange juice brings bright citrus; champagne/prosecco lifts everything with a crisp, bubbly finish that keeps the spice from feeling heavy. It works because the bubbles and orange juice cut through the rum-and-port sweetness, making it ideal for anyone who wants mulled-style spice in a lighter, festive format.

Can The TCL Mulled Fizz be made in advance?
Yes, the spiced rum, port, and orange juice mixture can be prepared in advance and stored in a refrigerator. However, it's advisable to add the champagne or prosecco and the vanilla pod right before serving to maintain the fizz and the fresh aroma.
What can be used as a substitute for champagne or prosecco in The TCL Mulled Fizz?
If champagne or prosecco is not available, a good substitute would be any sparkling white wine that's on the dry side to maintain the intended balance of flavors. Alternatively, for a non-alcoholic version, sparkling water or a non-alcoholic sparkling wine can be used.
How does the alcohol content of The TCL Mulled Fizz compare to other cocktails?
With an alcohol content of 19.03%, The TCL Mulled Fizz falls into the moderately strong category of cocktails. It's stronger than light cocktails like a Mimosa (around 10%) but not as strong as a straight spirit or a cocktail like a Martini, which can exceed 30% alcohol by volume.
Is The TCL Mulled Fizz considered a traditional mulled wine?
No, The TCL Mulled Fizz is not considered a traditional mulled wine. While it shares some ingredients commonly found in mulled wine, such as spices and orange juice, the addition of champagne or prosecco, and the serving method in a champagne glass, make it a unique cocktail that's distinct from the classic hot mulled wine.
