Banana Margarita takes the familiar Margarita template and nudges it into dessert-cocktail territory, keeping tequila blanco at the core while swapping in banana liqueur for a more playful, fruit-forward twist. You’ll recognise the same bright, citrus-and-orange structure that defines the style, but here it’s framed by ripe banana notes and a sweeter, softer edge. It’s less about strict tradition and more about a modern, flavoured riff that still reads unmistakably “Margarita” in spirit.
On the palate, tequila blanco brings a clean, assertive backbone that stops the drink from turning cloying. Triple sec adds orange sweetness that links neatly with the crème de banane’s candy-banana richness, while lemon juice cuts through both with sharp, refreshing acidity. The teaspoon of sugar smooths any extra tartness, and the banana quarter reinforces the fruit character, making the finish feel rounded and unmistakably banana-led.
Serve this in a cocktail glass when you want something fun, sweet-leaning, and still citrus-bright—ideal for parties, after-dinner sipping, or anyone who likes their tequila drinks on the fruitier side. The lemon wedge keeps it feeling fresh, while the banana garnish signals exactly what you’re in for.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Tequila blanco leads with a clean bite, quickly wrapped in triple sec brightness and a thick crème de banane sweetness, while lemon juice and a lemon wedge snap the edges into focus; the banana quarter adds soft, ripe fruit depth and the teaspoon of sugar pushes it further into dessert. It works because the lemon’s acidity reins in the banana liqueur and sugar, and the orange notes bridge tequila to fruit, making it ideal for margarita fans who want a sweeter, banana-forward twist.

FAQ's
Can I use a different type of banana for the Banana Margarita?
Yes, you can use any type of banana for the Banana Margarita. While the common yellow banana (Cavendish) is often preferred for its sweetness and texture, feel free to experiment with other varieties. Just keep in mind that different bananas may alter the flavor profile slightly.
Is there a non-alcoholic version of the Banana Margarita?
Absolutely! To make a non-alcoholic Banana Margarita, simply omit the Tequila and Triple Sec. You can replace them with non-alcoholic substitutes or increase the quantities of the non-alcoholic ingredients like lemon juice and creme de banane syrup to balance the flavors. Adding a dash of soda water can also help mimic the missed sharpness of alcohol.
How can I adjust the sweetness of the Banana Margarita?
The sweetness of the Banana Margarita can be adjusted by varying the amount of sugar or by adjusting the amount of creme de banane. If you prefer a less sweet cocktail, you can reduce the sugar or creme de banane slightly. Conversely, if you like it sweeter, feel free to add a bit more of either ingredient according to your taste.
What's the best way to serve the Banana Margarita?
The ideal way to serve a Banana Margarita is cold in a cocktail glass. You can chill the glass beforehand by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water for a few minutes before pouring your cocktail. Garnishing with a lemon wedge or a thin banana slice can enhance its visual appeal and add a refreshing touch.
Can I make a batch of Banana Margaritas in advance?
Yes, you can make a batch of Banana Margaritas in advance. Prepare the mixture according to the recipe and store it in the refrigerator. However, it's best not to add the banana until you're ready to serve, as it might brown or change the texture of the drink over time. Blend or stir in the fresh banana just before serving to ensure the best taste and presentation.
