Dirty Cowboy sits firmly in the creamy, dessert-cocktail camp: a sweet, milkshake-like drink built for indulgence rather than sharp citrus or spirit-forward bite. You’ll find it follows the modern after-dinner tradition of liqueur-led mixes—think cosy, candy-bar flavours and a soft, approachable strength—served up in a showy hurricane glass that leans into the treat-yourself vibe.
On the palate, butterscotch schnapps brings a bold caramel sweetness that sets the tone, while Bailey’s adds a smooth, creamy liqueur richness that deepens the sweetness without turning it harsh. Chocolate sauce folds in a thick cocoa note that makes the drink feel more like a liquid dessert than a standard cocktail. Milk lightens and stretches those flavours into something sippable, and cream rounds everything out with a fuller, silkier finish.
Serve it when you want something comforting and crowd-pleasing—after dinner, as a sweet nightcap, or in place of dessert at a casual get-together. If you love creamy liqueurs, butterscotch, and chocolate, this is the kind of drink you’ll happily linger over.

Ingredients
Cocktail Colin says:
Butterscotch schnapps leads with caramel-candy sweetness, while Bailey’s adds a soft cocoa-cream note that melts into the milk and cream for a thick, milkshake-like body, and the chocolate sauce deepens everything into fudgy richness. It works because the butterscotch and chocolate reinforce each other while dairy smooths any edges; ideal for dessert-drink lovers and anyone craving an indulgent, low-bite sipper.

FAQ's
Can I substitute the butterscotch schnapps in a Dirty Cowboy?
Yes, you can substitute butterscotch schnapps with caramel liqueur for a similar flavor profile. The sweetness and richness will be comparable, but the caramel liqueur may bring a slightly different depth of flavor.
What garnish would complement a Dirty Cowboy cocktail?
A Dirty Cowboy cocktail can be beautifully garnished with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or chocolate shavings on top. For an extra touch, a drizzle of chocolate sauce around the inside of the glass before pouring the cocktail can also enhance its presentation.
What is the best way to serve a Dirty Cowboy?
The Dirty Cowboy cocktail is best served cold in a hurricane glass. Refrigerate the ingredients beforehand or stir the cocktail with ice to chill it before straining into the glass. This ensures the cocktail is refreshingly cold without being diluted by the ice.
How does the alcohol content in a Dirty Cowboy compare to a standard cocktail?
With an alcohol content of 3.92%, a Dirty Cowboy has a lower alcohol content than many standard cocktails, which typically range from 10% to 25% alcohol by volume (ABV). This makes the Dirty Cowboy a lighter option, suitable for those seeking a milder drink.
Is the Dirty Cowboy cocktail suitable for vegetarians?
Yes, the Dirty Cowboy cocktail is suitable for vegetarians. Its ingredients, including Bailey's, butterscotch schnapps, chocolate sauce, milk, and cream, do not contain meat products. However, vegetarians should verify that the specific brands of Bailey's and chocolate sauce used do not contain any animal derivatives.
