On a hot summer day, few things can compare to a cool drink. And you like fine rum, there is no better way to relax and cool down than with a delicious rum cocktail. Here are some of the best rum drinks to sip on this summer, whether you're throwing a backyard barbecue, spending time at the pool, or soaking up some sunshine on the beach. Your taste buds are guaranteed to be delighted by various drinks, ranging from classics like the Mojito to tropical creations with a distinctive twist, such as the exotic and notorious Piña Colada. Here are the 5 best rum cocktails to indulge in this summer.

DAIQUIRI

A daiquiri is the perfect drink to cool down on a scorching summer day. It's among the tastiest and simplest cocktails to prepare. Get extra on hand in case you end up needing more than one serving.

Ingredients

  • 60 mL Equiano Light

  • 30 mL fresh lime juice

  • 22.5 mL sugar syrup

  • 5 fresh mint leaves

  • Champagne float

Instructions

Combine the rum, lime juice, and sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake well before serving in a Martini or coupe glass. Drizzle a touch of champagne over the drink. Garnish with a lime wheel and a mint leaf.

MOJITO

Originating from Cuba, the Mojito recipe results in a famous highball drink, one of the most appreciated thanks to its freshness. It strikes the ideal balance between sweet and sour with only a few basic ingredients. The recipe below makes only one serving, but if you want to make a pitcher, it would be great for a summertime get-together.

Ingredients

  • 3 mint leaves

  • 15 mL lime juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 60 mL white rum

  • 1 tsp. superfine sugar

  • ½ cup club soda / soda water

How to Make a Mojito

Combine the lime juice and 1 teaspoon of superfine sugar in a small Collins glass and stir to dissolve. Put in a few mint leaves and mash everything together. Add ice to the glass until it's almost full, then top off with the rum. Finish it off with a splash of seltzer or club soda, whatever you want.

Strawberry Mojito Cocktail Variation

To make a Strawberry Mojito cocktail, simply add a few fresh diced strawberries to the muddling step for a fruity twist on this classic Mojito recipe.

PIÑA COLADA

This velvety drink has its origins in Puerto Rico and packs a punch because it uses black rum in addition to white rum. It just takes a few minutes to make and tastes delicious.

Ingredients

  • 30 mL dark rum

  • 45 mL white rum

  • 25 mL coconut cream

  • 100 mL pineapple juice

  • Ice

Instructions

Whisk in the rums first. Then combine with coconut cream and unsweetened pineapple juice (either crushed or whole pineapple). Use about a cup of crushed ice or five or six ice cubes and blend on high. Pour into a tall glass. Add a pineapple wedge to garnish and a straw.

ZOMBIE

As its name implies, the Zombie is no ordinary rum. The drink blends several kinds of rum with fruit juices and speciality syrups to create a strong and tasty tropical treat.

Ingredients

  • 15 mL white rum

  • 30 mL dark rum

  • 45 mL gold rum

  • 30 mL 151-proof rum

  • 30 mL lime juice

  • 30 mL unsweetened pineapple juice

  • 1 tsp. Papaya juice

  • 1 tsp. superfine sugar

Directions

Blend all the ingredients, except the 151-proof rum. Transfer the concoction to a tall glass that is 3/4 filled with crushed ice. Pour the 151-proof rum onto a spoon and dip it gently under the surface of the drink to make it float. Add fruit or mint as a garnish. You can also soak the mint in lime juice and then sprinkle it with superfine sugar.

MAI TAI

Mai Tai is among the world's most well-known Tiki cocktails. It is a blend of light and dark rum, lime juice, orange liqueur, and orgeat syrup. When combined properly, these ingredients can make a drink that is both refreshing and flavourful.

Ingredients

  • 45 mL white rum

  • 15 mL dark rum

  • 20 mL lime juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 15 mL orange curaçao

  • 15 mL orgeat syrup

Directions

Pour the white rum, lime juice, orgeat, curaçao, and crushed ice into a shaker and give it a quick three-second mix. Transfer to a large Collins glass (or tiki cup) without straining. Add the black rum and let it float. Add a mint sprig and half of a lime shell as garnishes.

Conclusion

The perfect way to cool yourself in the summer and satisfy your taste buds with these delicious rum drinks. Indulge in one of these refreshing cocktails—from the traditional Mojito to the juicy Strawberry Daiquiri—and make your summer unforgettable.
