Its Vermouth week!!

Welcome to another weekly edition of your ingredient deep dive, this week on the tantalisingly flavoursome Vermouth.

Before we dive into the cocktails and history though, there's 2 little (BIG) announcements - we all got super duper excited (turn our excitements levels to 11) this week as we finally launched our beautiful new updated iOS app. It's so slick, tied into our website properly .. we've really spent some time fine tuning this one.

Its available to download right now on the app store. We're so proud of this one, its been a long time coming but we really wanted to get it right! Expect lots of news on this over the coming few months as we've got some great ideas for improving and expanding it. Grab it here →.

Before we get you all shouting about the Android version - we promise you it's coming. It's actually all built we're just going through the Android upload and forms to get it out there. Hopefully in the next week it'll be ready to go (watch this space).

A quick history lesson

Vermouth, a fortified and aromatized wine, traces its origins back to Ancient Greece and Rome, where herbal wines were popular for medicinal purposes. However, its modern form was crafted in the late 18th century by Antonio Benedetto Carpano in Turin, Italy. Named after the German word for wormwood, "Wermut," it's a key ingredient in classic cocktails like the Martini and the Manhattan. By the 19th century, French and Italian variations had emerged, each with distinct styles—dry vermouth being a French specialty and sweet vermouth, Italian. Vermouth quickly gained iconic status in cocktail culture for its complex, nuanced flavors.
