Every year we have dreams of a white Christmas, but unfortunately, it doesn’t always work that way....
Mother's Day Cocktails
Jump to
Mother’s Day is fast approaching and it is the best time of year to show your mum how much you love her. Buy her some chocolates and flowers and then mix her up a fabulous cocktail to remind her of what a good daughter/son you are.
Here’s a tip. Don’t make a cocktail with a rude name. Your mum will always want to remember you as sweet and innocent, even when you are 64 years old with ten kids, so presenting her with a glass of Slippery Dick is not going to go down well. Also, avoid using alco-pops; she is a mother, not a teenager.
Here are some safe suggestions for you to try:
Mum In Wonderland
This drink is more of a shot than a cocktail, but it is sure to help mum loosen up after a hard week. Pour 20ml of Amaretto into a shot glass and then pour 20ml Grand Marnier on top. If you use a spoon to trickle the cognac carefully over the Amaretto, you should create a layered affect. Mum will be so proud.

Queen Mother Cocktail
Referring to your mother as royalty will definitely win you some brownie points, although she would probably rather be likened to Princess Diana than the Queen Mother. Nevertheless, this cocktail is delicious. It was named after the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, as it was her favourite drink. Her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II is also a fan, so your mum will be in good company. To make the drink, pour one part gin and two parts Dubonnet into a shaker and stir with ice. Then pour into a cocktail glass and garnish with orange, lemon, or both.

Mumtini
Here is a fun, fruity variation of a classic that is sure to put you in Mum’s good books. Remember to chill your martini glass beforehand to ensure she gets the full benefit of the drink. Then, use a shaker to combine one and a half parts of Beefeater Gin, half a part of Campari, one part grapefruit juice, two teaspoons sugar syrup, two dashes of orange bitters and a handful of ice. Once shaken, pour into your glass and garnish with a strip of grapefruit peel.

Mums the Word
On Mother’s Day, Mum is the most important word in the house, so this cocktail is perfect for that special lady. You’ll need a chilled martini glass again, and then pour one part vodka, one part cherry brandy and three parts orange juice into a shaker with ice. Shake well and pour into the glass. Garnish with a cherry.

Mom’s Mocha Martini
If you have the kind of mum who needs a coffee to keep her going through the day, then she will love this recipe. Fill a shaker with 50ml Jack Daniels, 25ml Bailey’s Irish Cream, 25ml espresso coffee and 25ml crème de cacao. Shake well and then pour into a chilled martini glass. Squirt a layer of cream on top and garnish with chocolate sprinkles. What’s not to love?

Choose your mum’s favourite, or make all five. Either way, she is sure to have a Mother’s Day to remember.
