Quirky Tequila fact!

Did you know that tequila, the spirited heart of cocktails like the Margarita, can only be made in specific regions of Mexico, similar to how champagne is exclusive to parts of France? This protected designation of origin gives tequila its unique character. Adding an extra layer of intrigue, some premium tequilas are even aged underground in caves, where they develop their rich flavors over time, making them a unique addition to any cocktail enthusiast's repertoire.

Top bartender tip

"Like cooking, making cocktails is a culinary art that benefits from tasting and adjusting. Before serving, taste your cocktail with a straw or spoon and adjust if necessary. Maybe it needs a touch more sweetness, a bit more acidity to brighten it up, or a dilution adjustment. Personalize each drink to your liking, and don't be afraid to stray from the recipe to create something that suits your taste perfectly."

A quick history lesson

Tequila, a spirit cherished in cocktails like the classic Margarita, dates back to the Aztecs, who fermented a precursor called pulque from the agave plant. The distilled form emerged in the 16th century with Spanish settlers in Jalisco, Mexico. The name "Tequila" comes from the town of Tequila, where it was first mass-produced in the 1600s. By 1974, Mexico declared "tequila" as its intellectual property. Authentic tequila is made from blue agave, taking a minimum of eight years to mature before harvesting. Today, this vibrant spirit infuses a rich history into every cocktail, blending tradition with modern mixology creativity.
