Most Vietnamese are not partial to drinking during meals, but local beer is always the exception. To pack a punch for this festival the tradition is to gather together during these days to have fun.

I thought this punch could be the iconic drink. More than that, it isn't just a drink for me; it’s a symbol of love for my country, my family and the rest of all friends. ~ Trinh Quan Huy-Philip, Vietnam Mixxit Master 2011 and Swizzle Master 2015

FAQ's

PREPARATION_TECHNIQUES

How do I properly shake the Satama Punch cocktail?

To properly shake the Satama Punch cocktail, fill a shaker with ice and add the absinthe, white rum, lemon juice, dark rum, passion fruit syrup, and apricot liqueur. Secure the lid or shaker tin on top and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients thoroughly. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice.

INGREDIENT_SUBSTITUTIONS

Can I substitute something else for absinthe in the Satama Punch?

Yes, if absinthe isn't available or to your taste, you can substitute it with Pernod or a similar anise-flavored spirit. Keep in mind that the substitute should offer a slight licorice flavor to maintain the drink's character, but use sparingly as these alternatives can be quite potent.

SERVING_SUGGESTIONS

What is the best way to serve the Satama Punch?

The Satama Punch is best served in a highball glass over ice. You can garnish it with a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint for added visual appeal and a touch of freshness. Serve immediately after shaking to enjoy its full flavor and cold temperature.

FOOD_PAIRINGS

What food pairs well with the Satama Punch?

The Satama Punch, with its tropical and slightly sweet flavor profile, pairs well with light and spicy foods. Consider serving it with grilled seafood, chicken skewers, or a variety of appetizers like spring rolls or jerk chicken wings to complement its fruity and refreshing taste.

NON_ALCOHOLIC_VARIATIONS

Is there a non-alcoholic version of the Satama Punch?

Yes, to make a non-alcoholic version of the Satama Punch, replace the absinthe, white rum, and dark rum with a combination of non-alcoholic spirits or a bit more passion fruit syrup and apricot liqueur to keep the tropical essence. You can also experiment with adding sparkling water or lemon-lime soda for added volume and fizz.
