Cocktail Colin says:

4/5

St Luke's Love Song is a symphony of flavors where the warmth of bourbon and the zest of triple sec playfully intertwine with the delicate floral notes of homemade lavender syrup. The maraschino cherries bring a hint of sweetness that pairs wonderfully with the subtle spice of Angostura bitters, creating a cocktail that's both richly aromatic and nostalgically sophisticated.

Method
How to make a St Luke's Love Song

Serves 1 · Takes 3 minutes
First you need to make the lavender syrup
In a shallow pan add half a cup of water and a tablespoon of lavender flowers and bring to the boil
Once the mixture is boiling, lower to a simmer and add a quarter cup of sugar and half a cup of liquid honey, stirring for five minutes on a low heat
Remove from the heat and chill overnight
Strain using a cheesecloth and store in an airtight container for up to ten days
To make the cocktail, muddle the cherries with lavender syrup and the bitters in a mixing glass
Strain the liquid mix into a rocks glass, add the bourbon, triple sec and ice, and stir
Garnish with an orange peel and another maraschino cherry and serve

St Luke's Love Song, with its blend of bourbon, lavender syrup, and a hint of angostura bitters, is perfect for romantic evenings, intimate gatherings, or as a soul-warming nightcap. Its nuanced flavor profile lends itself well to moments when you're looking to savor each sip, perhaps in celebration of an anniversary, Valentine's Day, or any moment that calls for a touch of romance and sophistication.

FAQ

Can I replace bourbon with another type of whiskey in St Luke's Love Song?

While bourbon is the recommended whiskey for St Luke's Love Song due to its unique sweetness and richness, you can replace it with another type of whiskey if you prefer. Rye whiskey could add a spicier edge to the cocktail, while a Scotch could introduce smoky nuances. However, keep in mind that each type of whiskey has its own flavor profile, which will alter the final taste of the cocktail.

NON_ALCOHOLIC_VARIATIONS

How can I make a non-alcoholic version of St Luke's Love Song?

To create a non-alcoholic version of St Luke's Love Song, replace the bourbon with a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative or a simple syrup flavored with vanilla and oak extract to mimic whiskey's complexity. Use a non-alcoholic triple sec substitute for the triple sec. Keep the lavender syrup and angostura bitters (if you're okay with the minute alcohol content in bitters) and garnish with maraschino cherries. This version keeps the cocktail's essence while making it accessible to everyone.

FAQ

What makes lavender syrup a special ingredient in St Luke's Love Song?

Lavender syrup adds a delicate floral note to St Luke's Love Song, enhancing its uniqueness and depth of flavor. It brings a slight sweetness and a sophisticated floral aroma that complements the robustness of bourbon and the citrus notes from triple sec. This ingredient elevates the cocktail from a regular whiskey drink to a more intricate and aromatic experience, perfect for those special moments.

FAQ

Is there a specific type of bourbon that works best in St Luke's Love Song?

For St Luke's Love Song, it's advisable to use a bourbon that's well-balanced between sweetness and oakiness, with a smooth finish to complement the lavender syrup and the citrus notes from the triple sec. A medium-bodied bourbon, neither too harsh nor too mellow, typically works best. However, the choice of bourbon can vary based on personal preference, so feel free to experiment with different brands and ages to find your perfect match.
