Kick those January blues to the curb with a delicious range of classic cocktails! If you are looking to improve your bartending skills and master the art of mixology, this is the very best place to start. Once you have perfected these drinks, every other drink will be a breeze!

Negroni

This is the cocktail to prove your cocktail-making worth! Simple to create, but incredibly effective, every bartender loves to make a Negroni. A tantalizing combination of gin, Campari and sweet Vermouth, this is a great drink to start with. Once you have got this recipe right, you might want to mix it up by experimenting with different flavours. Why not sample a Summer Negroni?

Martini

Made cool by everyone's favourite British super-sleuth, James Bond, the Martini is one of the most versatile cocktails. It is quite easy to make, simply stir gin and vermouth with ice before straining into your chilled Martini glass. You can then expand your repertoire by creating a huge range of different Martini-based drinks. Try a Raspberry Martini or an Apple Martini for a fruity option, or try the people-pleasing Espresso Martini!

Mojito

Strong but delicious, the Mojito is another classic cocktail that nobody can resist. The ingredients list may look a little daunting to a beginner, but it is actually quite simple to make and even easier to drink! The smooth combination of white rum, lime juice, mint leaves, sugar syrup, bitters and soda water is fun to adapt too. Try a Strawberry Mojito or a Green Tea Mojito.

Gimlet

Incredibly similar to a Martini - if you can become an expert of one, you are an expert of both. This mix of gin and lime juice can be adjusted to make all sorts of different variations, including a Vodka Gimlet or a Green Tea Gimlet.

If you can identify the difference between a Gimlet and a Martini just by tasting them, then you will know that your cocktail palette has become a lot more sophisticated. Then you can start to call yourself a true mixologist!

Pardon the interruption

Did you know that you can become a member for free, taking your cocktail making skills up to level 11. You can save your My Bar ingredients, make tasting notes, have personalised Tried and Want to try lists and more.

Sidecar

An incredible blend of brandy, Cointreau and lemon juice, the Sidecar is a fun cocktail to learn. Make sure your cocktail glass is rimmed with sugar and enjoy the citrus blend. Adjust the cocktail to create a Chelsea Sidecar or Winter Sidecar.

The possibilities for cocktail-creating are endless, so you are sure to have a lot of fun making these classic recipes!

Bartender's top tip

The foundation of a great cocktail is quality ingredients. Invest in good spirits that you enjoy on their own, as they'll inevitably make your cocktails taste better. Similarly, use fresh, high-quality mixers, real fruit juices, and homemade syrups instead of pre-made or artificial alternatives. Even a simple cocktail made with quality ingredients can taste exceptional.
