The Best Cocktails for Casino Night at Home
If you love parties, then you might have realized that themed parties are becoming very popular. Whether you are a lover of casino slots or you prefer masquerade parties, you can easily find a home party themed after any world.
After dressing to impress, shuffling the cards, and sitting around the tables on a casino-themed night, one thing remains. The night cannot end without doing some bit of mixology and having some of the best cocktails in the land.
Vesper Martini
The drink first appeared in Ian Fleming's 1953 Casino Royale as James Bond's first drink as he is seated at the poker table. The cocktail is named after the film's double agent and Bond's love interest, Vesper Lynd.
From the movie, the Vesper is made by cocktailing three measures of gin, one measure of vodka, and half a measure of Kina Lillet. Since the Kina Lillet is no longer in production, you can either use Lillet blanc or dry Vermouth.
To complete the Vesper, ensure that you shake it until ice cold. Do not stir, as it is the norm for other spirit cocktails.
Margarita
If you love tequila, then you are bound to love this drink, which contains tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and cut limes. The beauty of this cocktail is that you can customize it to suit your drinker's preferences.
There are many theories about who started the drink and why. There are those who claim that it was created in Hussong's Cantina by bartender Don Carlos Orozco, while others claim that it was first mixed by bartender Fransisco "Pancho" Morales at Tommy's Place Bar in Juarez, Chihuahua.
For the "Original Recipe," according to Cointreau, combine one-part white tequila, half-part Cointreau, and half-part fresh squeezed lime juice. However, you can use flavored liqueurs or tequila, fruit sodas and sports drinks, or different fruits for the recipe.
Rhett Butler
This classic is named after the famous fictional character in "Gone with the Wind," who was wild at the gaming tables. The drink calls for:
- 2 oz. of Southern Comfort,
- ½ oz. of orange curaçao liqueur,
- ½ oz. of freshly squeezed lime juice
- ½ oz. of freshly squeezed lemon juice
Combine the ingredients, shake them vigorously for 30 seconds, and strain them over crushed ice. You can then top it up with club soda and garnish a slice of lemon.
Black Cat
The Black Cat is among the easy-to-make cocktails as it uses common and budget-friendly ingredients.
To make it work, you would need to mix two ounces of Kirsch, one ounce of vodka, and a dash of grenadine in a highball glass. Top the mix with a cola of the drinker's choice and stir it well.
Since the mixed drink is highly flavored, there is no need to use your best vodka.
Monte Carlo Imperial
Adapted from a recipe in "The Savoy Cocktail Book," this classic, minty drink is beautiful and easy to make. You only need a shot of white crème de menthe, one and a half shots of London Dry Gin, and half a shot of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Add the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and shake them well for 30 seconds, then strain into a chilled glass. You can then top up the mix with champagne or sparkling water.

Another classic adapted from Harry Craddock's recipe book, this is one cocktail that will leave you happy, as its name suggests. For the recipe, you need:
- 1 oz. Grand Marnier
- 1 oz. orange Curaçao
- 1 oz. lemon juice
- A dash of grenadine
Shake the ingredients well with ice in a mixing glass and then fine strain it into a cocktail glass. Add a twist of orange for garnish as desired.
Never on Sunday
The mixed drink gets its name from the 1960 comedy classic "Never on Sunday." For this recipe, you need:
- 1 oz. Ouzo
- 1 oz. brandy
- A dash of Angostura bitters
- A dash of lemon juice
Mix the ingredients in a mixing glass and shake well with ice. Pour the mix into a cocktail glass and top with a mix of champagne and ginger beer.
Lady Luck
This cocktail is specifically made for people who believe in luck, hence its name. It has become a common drink in the gambling environment, especially among the high ballers.
The recipe for this delicious drink requires the following:
- 2 oz. gin
- 0.75 oz. St Germain
- 1.5 oz. pear nectar
- 0.25 oz. lemon juice
- 3 dash grapefruit bitters
Combine all the ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake for 30 seconds. After straining it into a chilled cocktail glass, you can garnish it with a pear fan.
Presenting the cocktails
As a mixologist, ensure that your cocktails are bursting out with color for a great visual impact and beautiful aromas. Have edible flowers for natural beauty, citrus twists to add vibrant aromas, and craft fruit skewers to have edible stirrers.
Another important factor to consider is the glassware you are using, whether martini glasses, champagne glasses, coupes, or Collins glasses. The type of audience and the number of ounces in a drink should help you determine the glass to use for the best visual appeal.
Enhancing the Casino-Themed Night
Cocktail presentation is an art that every mixologist needs to master, whether seasoned or an at-home enthusiast. An enhanced presentation is a sure way of elevating the overall drinking experience by engaging the taste buds as well as the visual and aromatic senses.
Apart from having tasty drinks, ensure that you;
- Capitalize on casino-themed decorations
- Have good music, including classics like Frank Sinatra or the Rolling Stones
- Have a photo booth
- Prepare tasty snacks
Conclusion
Casino-themed parties can never be complete without incorporating some of the favorite cocktails found in casinos. Looking up recipes for these cocktails and making them to the desired taste will leave your guests asking for more nights like that.
